CONCERNING THE CHURCH’S AUTHORITY & DISCIPLINE

THE BIBLE SAYS…

COMPILED  BY DANIEL L. WAKEFIELD

·         Matthew 16:18-19                     And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.  (See Matthew 18:18)

·         John 20:23                                 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

·         1 Corinthians 12:27-28            Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

·         Ephesians 4:11-12                   And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

·         Acts 5:5                                       And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.  (See Acts 5:1-11)

·         1 Corinthians 5:5                      To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

·         2 Corinthians 13:2, 10             I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:  10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.

·         1 Timothy 5:1, 17-22                Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;  17-22  Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. 19Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. 20Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

·         Titus 3:10                                   A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;

·         Hebrews 13:17                          Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
