CONCERNING FASTING

THE BIBLE SAYS…

·         Zechariah 8:19              Thus saith the Lord of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.

 

·         Matthew 4:1-2                Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.  And when he has fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.

 

·         Matthew 6:16-18           Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance:  for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast.  Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.  But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

 

·         Mark 2:18-20                  And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast:  and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?  And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?  as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.  But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

 

·         Mark 9:28-29                  And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?  And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

 

·         Luke 2:37-38                  And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.  And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

 

·         Acts 10:30-31                 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, And said, Cornelius said, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.        

 

·         Acts 13:2-3                     And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.  And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

 

·         II Corinthians 6:4-5       But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;

·         II Corinthians 11:27      (22…)  27  In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
